The foundation of the state oversight body in Mongolia was laid a century ago, in 1922 and during social system change and historical times, it overcame many development challenges, as did the Supreme Audit Institutions of other countries.

In the history of its development from 1922 to 1990, the State Audit Office underwent 13 structural changes, including the Ministry of Audit, committees, departments, divisions, and commissions.
